After Kanamara Matsuri, we had lunch and made our way to Yoyogi Park to meet up Ben and Anna for some hanami (cherry blossom viewing). I may have mentioned this last year, but hanami is a popular thing in Japan. Many people go out to view the blossoms and enjoy it through having picnics, drinking, and spending the day outdoors with friends and/or family. Hanami is a big deal in Japan and it doesn’t last long as many of the blossom start to disappear within a few weeks. The local weather even gives forecasts by region as to when is the best time to view the cherry blossoms so that people can plan accordingly.
This year it seems that the weather is cooler than expected, but I’m not complaining cause it’s gonna be hotter than bum f*ck soon enough. But the upside to the summer is that I’ll sweat all my winter weight… or at least that’s the theory.
Hanami weekends are usually busy at the popular spots of the city, but I wasn’t expecting crowds like this outside Harajuku Station.
Takeshita dori the main area for Harajuku shopping was the most packed I have ever seen! Apparently combined with the regular shopping that goes on on weekends and the hanami-goers, there was also a cycling race and the Hey! Say! JUMP Concert. There were a whole bunch of girls holding up signs for anyone selling tickets to the concert.
Walking to Yoyogi Park was no easy task. We met up with Anna at the station and made our way to meet Ben inside the park. The crowds were massive. Haha… It looks like Anna is being carried away by zombies. :P
We finally settle in and enjoy drinks and good company… and the Cadbury Creme Eggs Motoko had gotten from the UK. Oh how I miss thee! :9
This guy named James offered to take this picture for us. Ginny and Ben disappeared from this picture and were on a mission of stalkerazzing people with their camera in the park. We had realized that this photo didn’t have a desirable hanami backdrop, so we asked for a retake. :P
In the meantime, James’ boss found it upon himself to offer us drinks at 100 yen a pop. He later gave in a gave us some for free. He was a funny guy!
Taken from the opposite side, James took another picture. This time James’ drunk boss snuck into the picture. Haha, oh you! :P
